A's (0-1) @ Angels (1-0)

Well, the travesty of opening day is behind us and now we look to the future - which of course starts with the ML debut of 21 year old Trevor Cahill. Not gonna lie, I'm definitely looking forward to this start and the start of Mr. Cahill's hopefully long career in an A's uniform (which will last about 4-5 years until Beane trades him away for prospects who most likely won't amount to diddilydick). I'm going to tab him "Large Tim Hudson".

Cahill (0-0) vs. Moseley (0-0) - 10:07 First Pitch

10:01 - Welcome back to A's baseball on Comcast Sportsnet HD (which of course is not being actually broadcast in HD on DirecTV).
10:02 - And let me also throw out another warm welcome back to Ray Fosse's mustache, livestrong.
10:05 - Lineups announced. Wait, what? No Holliday? What in the? Nomar starts again at 1B, Buck gets the nod as he should in RF. They pwnd Moseley last year, hopefully that trend continues this year.
10:07 - OK, phew, not injured, but Holliday is home sick. Maybe he caught the bug that was floating around the A's lineup last night.
10:08 - Sweeney starts off the night better than last, oppo single to LF.
10:10 - I'm just going to throw this out there, CSBayArea has the league's worst audio mix. Piss poor, constantly popping and sometimes only comes out of one channel L or R - Juan-esque.
10:13 - Giambi actually looks like he's in good shape for an old man. Now that he's back on the west coast, all that extra time spent at the Rhino must do a body good.
10:17 - Leadoff single goes for naught. Nomar hitting cleanup for some reason - if you want to call it "hitting".
10:21 - Great. Leadoff walk to Sean. Never good. And yes, I refuse to type "Chone" ever again.
10:23 - SB. Sac fly. Cust never makes it look easy out there.
10:25 - Sean scores on groundout to 2nd on drawn in infield. Ugh.
10:30 - Single. Double. Walk. Wtf.
10:33 - Reason #835 Why Mike Scioscia is a Douche: Just spent 2 minutes arguing an obvious foul tip.
10:34 - Cahill escapes with the sacks loaded. End of 1: 0-1-0 | 1-2-0
10:41 - Travis Buck wins the award hands down for current MLB player who looks like the biggest dirtbag. And thats why I love him. Another runner left on. 2 in 2.
10:47 - Leadoff double. Sac bunt. Wild pitch. Run. Gayngels baseball.
10:48 - I seriously hold my breath everytime the ball is hit in Cust's vacinity.
10:50 - End of 2. 0-2-0 | 2-3-0
10:54 - Leadoff double for fellow DMB fan Mark Ellis. Now let's see how we can find a way to strand him out there.
10:59 - And done. Flyout. Flyout. Popout. I know this team all too well.
11:10 - Cahill escapes another 2nd & 3rd jam. He's thrown way too many pitches to be around much longer. End of 3: 0-3-0 | 2-5-0
11:13 - 3rd inning out of 4 with a leadoff hit. And yay - they have more hits than last night! Will this be the inning they put a run up on the board?
11:16 - And they put it on the boaaarddddddd...... YES! Cust bangs one off the wall in right and only gets a single. Nomar would have been dead at the plate but Angels threw to the wrong cutoff man. Must have been those people in the first row out there yelling "CUT 3, CUT 3!!!"
11:19 - Consecutive hits. No way, didn't think that was possible.
11:21 - Ding. 2-2. Cust scores on RBI groundout by Buck.
11:22 - HOOWAH! 2-out RBI single to CF from Ellis, as Suzuki awkwardly slides home and scores ahead of Hunters throw - 1st lead of the year!
11:36 - Couple walks leads to another stressful inning, but Cahill out of it unscathed. I'm guessing he won't be out there for the 5th. End of 4: 3-7-0 | 2-5-0
11:42 - Giambi out of .000 land with basehit #1 on the year.
11:49 - Well, I was wrong. Cahill starts the inning. And, I was probably WAY under in my call of 2 dropped easy fly balls for Cust for the season. The count folks, is already at 1. Huge E to start the 5th. Cahill at 87 pitches.
11:55 - Morales singles to CF. 3-3. Thanks Jack!
11:59 - End of 5: 3-8-1 | 3-5-0
12:03 - Cust K Count: 2. He's on a roll ladies and yents.
12:11 - Cahill Out. Wuertz In. Decent debut for Cahill, but the 5 BB's def. hurt the pitch count.
12:17 - Wuertz strands Aybar at 3rd. End of 6: 3-9-1 | 3-6-0
12:19 - Hoping to turn my Streak for the CASH losing streak from L2 to W1 here with an A's win. Big stakes here people.
12:20 - Moseley Out. Jepsen In. Another leadoff single for Sweeney.
12:28 - Kendrick saves a run with diving stop up the middle. Bases loaded, 1 out.
12:30 - Chavez RBI groundout, A's lead 4-3!
12:31 - Heyyy Cust comes through! Bloop single. Redemption. 5-3. 13 hits on the night!
12:36 - Wuertz Out. Jairo Garcia, I mean Santiago Casilla In.
12:39 - Nice quick half inning. End of 7: 5-13-1 | 3-6-0
12:42 - I just heard Dropkick Murphy's playing in the background at the stadium and yes, this sickens me for some reason.
12:43 - Jepsen Out. Oliver In.
12:47 - Thank goodness, A's won't be back to Anaheim til August. Sweeney doubles, 3 hit night.
12:51 - Another 2-out RBI, Giambi doubles in Sweeney. 6-3. Oliver Out. Bulger In.
01:04 - Casilla goes 2 innings. End of 8: 6-15-1 | 3-6-0
01:14 - Damn, 16 hits. They must have all read last nights blog. On to the bottom of the 9th...
01:17 - Casilla Out. Ziegler In. He didn't perform well in the WBC, hopefully that doesn't carry over to this season.
01:18 - I'm sorry, but the Rally Monkey needs to be put out of his misery. What is it with Anaheim and their queer sports gimmicks? 2 things the world would be better without: The Rally Monkey and Thunder Sticks.
01:21 - Ugh. It's never easy... Abreu singles home Faggins. 1 Out. Vlad the tying run at the plate.
01:24 - Ballgame!! Vlad and Hunter strikeout swinging.

W: Wuertz (1-0) | L: Jepsen (0-1) | S: Ziegler (1)

A's: 6 | 16 | 1
Angels: 4 | 8 | 0

Time of Game: 3:20

Damn, that was too long of a 9 inning game, but I'll take all of those hits. Need to hit the hay. Solid win and great offensive output - that's what I was hoping for last night, now just need to keep it rollin. 1-1, 160 games to go...
