A's (5-8) @ Yankees (8-6)

Back from a 2 day hiatus as Monday's game was rained out, and last night's was blacked out here in NY (it was on My9 local cable channel and I only sport the DirecTV)... Not much going well lately, the offense has been terrible, last in the AL in most categories, with the pitching holding it's own. Pretty much exactly the opposite of what it was supposed to be this year... Day baseball today as it's get-away day for the A's, who travel back to Oakland after the game.

Anderson (0-2) vs. Sabathia (1-1) - First Pitch: 1:07

1:01 - YES carrying the game today thankfully - the only channel I can watch a Yankee game on... HD Game #10/11.
1:03 - Looks like another crappy overcast day in NY. The turnout looks worse than a usual game in Oaktown - the fans are really packing it in to this new park.
1:09 - Lineup: OCab still sucking ass in the 2-hole, Powell another start at 1B, and Crosby back at 3B for the struggling Chavez.
1:10 - A's usually tend to hammer Sabathia... hopefully today is more of the same.
1:11 - Giambi stands in to another nice ovation. Apparently the fans DID like him here... New Yorkers always appreciate a good mustache. Still no HR's for him on the year...
1:13 - Horrible K call on Giambi - F7, F8, >| for FattySab in the 1st.
1:18 - Damon reaches on maybe the best swinging bunt I've ever seen. Powell drops an easy Tex popup, but retires Damon on the FC at 2nd. Nice swap, good thinking...
1:21 - Piss Hands Posada with an INF 1B. Still 2 outs.
1:23 - HAHA, Ken Singleton just went "LOOK OUT!" on a breaking ball he thought was about to hit Cano but was right down the middle. Cano FC 4-6. End of 1: 0-0-0 | 0-2-0
1:27 - Hahaha, Posada almost got knocked out on a direct hit to the face, foul ball off the bat of Holliday.
1:29 - Holliday BB, Cust 1B. Maybe A's can get a lead for a change.
1:30 - Bad news out of A's camp today, Devine out for the season with Tommy John surgery. Supposed to be their closer, crazy talent, he will be missed.
1:32 - "SeeeeeYa" - Suzuki goes big fly to LF - which is now under review as a fan caught the ball in LF. Should be A's 4th HR of the year, piss poor pathetic.
1:36 - After a 4 minute delay, the verdict is... 3-0! Ellis then smokes one up the middle but Cano diving catch. A's are all over Sabathia like usual... Suzuki now 5-5 in this series and hitting close to .500 all time vs the Yanks.
1:41 - BB, P4, L4 finishes out the 2nd with the rain coming down a bit. This better not get delayed or rained out.
1:44 - Swish at the dish. Maybe the Yankees best player on this young season. Glad to see him doing well.
1:46 - Wtf, back to back HR's for Matsui and Cabrera, both on fastballs pretty much down the middle. Yanks: 24 HR's, A's: 4
1:49 - Powell boots a Jeter grounder - for his 2nd misplay in 2 innings, only counts for his first E though...
1:52 - Powell catches this pop from Damon. End of 2: 3-2-1 | 2-4-0
1:57 - HAHAHA, now DAMON drops an easy flyball off Giambi's bat. Giambi to 2nd. Holliday lines a single off Ransom's glove at 3B on the next pitch, white man can jump, saves a run. 1st n 3rd, 1 out.
1:59 - HAHAHA WHAT IS GOING ON TODAY??? Cust grounds one to Sabathia, he throws to Jeter at 2nd, who steps on the base, then THROWS HOME... instead of going to 1B for the inning ending double play. Trouble is, NOBODY WAS COVERING HOME, as Posada was backing up 1B. Maybe he thought it was kickball rules, hit the runner with the ball he's out... Wow. Won't be an error though, cuz can't assume the DP. Lucky bastard. 4-2. Suzuki retired finally on F9 to end the 3rd.
2:07 - Texeira 1B, Posada 2B. 2nd n 3rd, 0 outs. Gonna be tough to get out of this inning with the lead.
2:11 - Cano 4-3 RBI, Swisher singles in Posada to CF, but thrown out at 2nd trying to stretch into a double. Tie game 4-4.
2:13 - 3U. End of 3: 4-3-1 | 4-7-1
2:26 - Ugh. Jeter bombs one to CF. How does that happen? Damn. 4-5
2:28 - Cust shakily catches a liner to RF. End of 4: 4-3-1 | 5-8-1
2:36 - Sweeney 4-3, OCab L5, Giambi K.
2:38 - Tex 5-3. Crosby is looking much more comfortable at 3bag today.
2:43 - K, Cano 1B, P4 - End of 5: 4-3-1 | 5-9-1
2:51 - 6-3, Cust BB, Suzuki 5-3, Ellis SINGLE to CF - Cust scores, Ellis advances to 2nd on the throw. Ding! 5-5. Ellis starting to swing the bat better the past few games.
3:05 - Anderson out, Wuertz in. Suzuki cuts down Cabrera stealing, who singled off Anderson. Ransom then doubles, and Jeter follows with bloop double over head of OCab with 2 outs. Think that may be Wuertz's first ER on the year. 5-6
3:07 - Damon gets another damn swinging bunt, just as good as his first. He seriously has the worst looking swing, almost as bad as Barkley's golf swing.
3:08 - Great. Texiera singles to RF, another 2 out run. 5-7
3:15 - Crosby INF 1B, Sweeney BB, OCab SAC 1-3 - 2nd n 3rd, 1 out. Base hit could tie it here.
3:16 - Yankees luck out, Giambi smokes the ball off the PITCHING RUBBER and goes into the air to Jeter, barely gets him at 1st, run scores but 2 outs. 6-7
3:17 - HOLL YEAH - Holliday big 2 out single to CF, almost takes CC's head off. Sabathia exits to BOOOs. Phil "Snortin" Coke in. 7-7
3:27 - Wuertz out, Springer in.
3:35 - Doing well he is, single, BB, and a single to start the 7th. Bases loaded, 0 outs.
3:43 - Holy wow, NO RUNS SCORE!! K, P5, P4. End of 7: 7-6-1 | 7-15-1
3:49 - Suzuki another hit to leadoff the 8th. Ellis SAC 3, moves him to 2nd.
3:55 - Powell 4-3, Crosby K. There goes that...
3:57 - Springer out, Bailey in. Bailey gave up his 1st ER of his career last night on a Damon HR.
4:11 - WHOOPS, I had my Slingbox paused for awhile and forgot to damn record the stuff after in the guide. So, it jumped ahead now to top 9, still 7-7, 1 out. At least I didnt miss too much... Rivera is in for the Yanks. And hey! OCab actually gets a hit!
4:15 - Giambi FC 4-6, Holliday 4-3 on nice play from Cano.
4:18 - Ziegler in. Little known fact, he's the A's Player's Union representative.
4:23 - Swisher BB, Matsui 4-6-3 DP, Cabrera K - End of 9: 7-8-1 | 7-15-1
4:33 - Cust BB, Davis pinch runs and steals 2nd - 1st steal of the year. 0 outs still, Suzuki up.
4:35 - Marte who was in for Rivera, gets Suzuki to K and fall down at the same time. 1 out, Girardi goes to the bullpen once again. Ramirez in.
4:42 - Ellis F8, Powell BB, Crosby P6.
4:51 - 4-3 (x2), BB, Teixeira F9 - End of 10: 7-8-1 | 7-15-1
4:55 - Sweeney starts the 11th with a single to CF, almost tears his knee up slipping on 1st base getting back on a pickoff attempt.
4:57 - Hit and run, fail. Way to get the bat on the ball OCab. Sweeney thrown out at 2nd by Deadarm Posada. He ends up 6-3. Ramirez out, Veras in.
5:07 - Giambi BB, Holliday F9. Ziegler out, Outman in for the 2nd day in a row (this was his original start day).
5:14 - K, P2, 2-3 - End of 11: 7-9-1 | 7-15-1
5:22 - Just throwing this out there, CB Buckner is coming close to Joe West as the worst umpire in the league. And that's tough to do.
5:24 - Outman out, Giese in. Last time we saw Giese he was busy giving up a 2 run game winning bomb shot to Lyle Overbay in Toronto. Hopefully not more of the same today...
5:27 - K, K, P4. Nice. End of 12: 7-9-1 | 7-15-1
5:51 - Giese still dealin, A's still not hittin. End of 13: 7-9-1 | 7-16-1
6:02 - I have a feeling this isn't going to end well...
6:03 - Yup. 7-9
6:04 - Cabrera goes 2 run HR, Giese gives up another game winning 2 run HR in extra innings. Lovely, lets not throw him out there in extras again... please?

W: Veras (1-1) | L: Giese (0-2)

A's: 7 | 9 | 1
Yankees: 9 | 17 | 1

Time of Game: 4:57

Well, day baseball turned into night baseball, almost 2 games in 1. Good game though, although not much action in extras... Not sure why Geren didn't just leave Outman in for a few innings. And what happened to Gallagher being the A's long man?? I haven't heard that he was sent down, but might have been. Long trip back home to Oakland, Rays come in starting Friday. Pretty deflating road trip to say the least, 1-4.

A's (5-6) @ Blue Jays (9-4)

Big surprise, game wasn't on TV yesterday afternoon... you rock FOX! Had to watch on Gamecast at work and missed a pretty good ballgame from the looks. Result wasn't great as the A's had the lead but ended up losing in 12 innings on a Overbay 2 run HR 2-4. We resume today with both teams looking for the series win on Overbay Bobblehead Day in Toronto.

Braden (1-1) vs Romero (1-0) - First Pitch: 1:07

1:01 - Once again we're on Rogers Sportsnet - HD Game #: 9/10. Not really looking forward to listening to these lifeless broadcasters again, but I'll sacrifice that for watching the game in HD. Sorry CSN Cali.
1:05 - Lineup: Chavy is back! - at 3B, Powell gets the start at 1B, Giambi DH's, and Buck doesn't play for the 3rd straight game, wonder if he's injured... but haven't heard anything.
1:14 - P6, 6-3, E9 - Rios drops an easy fly off Giambi's bat, K.
1:22 - K, F7, Rios single off OCab's glove, 1-3. End of 1: 0-0-1 | 0-1-0
1:26 - Glad to see Scutaro starting everyday, just not against the A's - robs Cust on a full extension dive on a line drive up the middle.
1:37 - Great, 4 pitch leadoff walk to Millar, WP, Overbay single to CF and its 0-1.
1:40 - P1 - don't see that too often, and >| - End of 2: 0-0-0 | 1-2-1
1:48 - Ellis leadoff single, F8, Sweeney doubles off the wall, Ellis for some reason stops at 2nd and Gallego makes a horrible call sending him home as he's easily gunned down. Awesome way to get yourself taken out of an inning. Gallego looked like Dale Svuem out there. Piss poor. I blame Ellis just as much, horrible read on that.
1:53 - E6, OCab bad throw to 1st, and bloop single by Hill barely over the head of Ellis to start the inning. I'm sure the BJ's will score here after the A's ran themselves out of last inning, just the way it goes...
1:58 - Good, I jinxed 'em. F8, F7, F8 - End of 3: 0-2-1 | 1-3-1
2:04 - 6-3, >|, >|.
2:09 - 1B, K, 4-6-3 - End of 4: 0-2-1 | 1-4-1
2:14 - Suzuki singles off former Cal St. Fullerton battery mate Romero, 1 out.
2:27 - Braden has actually impressed me this year. Mixing pitches very well, changing speeds nicely, and throwing mainly strikes. Recipe for success right there and I welcome it. F8, 6-3, F8 - End of 5: 0-3-1 | 1-4-1
2:37 - F9, 6-3, Holliday 1B, K. This is pathetic...
2:39 - P4, Wells BB, 5-4-3 - End of 6: 0-4-1 | 1-4-1
2:44 - Chavez 4-3. Really glad I didn't make the trek up to Toronto for today's game. The lack of HR's hit by this team so far this season disgusts me. Suzuki BB.
2:46 - Wtf. Ellis grounds into the 4-6-3. If they lose this game 0-1 I'm blaming it on Ellis' baserunning.
2:56 - F8, F7, R.Chavez 1B, >| - 89 pitches so far for Braden - End of 7: 0-4-1 | 1-5-1
2:58 - Romero out, Downs in.
3:03 - Wow. K, K, 5-3. Assholomiooooo
3:07 - F7, BB - Braden removed, shot at the CG is gone. Springer in.
3:17 - Springer gets the job done - F8, K - End of 8: 0-4-1 | 1-5-1
3:19 - Downs out, Ryan in. 3-4-5 coming up... last chance.
3:21 - Giambi 4-3, Holliday 1B to RF. So you're tellin me there's a chance... Cust looking to extend his OB streak here, currently stands at 40.
3:25 - Cust battles for 10 pitches but for some reason freezes on a fastball down the middle. Nothing new there...
3:26 - Chavez 1-3. Game. Ugh.

W: Romero (2-0) | L: Braden (1-2) | S: Ryan (2)

A's: 0 | 5 | 1
Blue Jays: 1 | 5 | 1

Time of Game: 2:19

What a frustrating game this was. Glad it only lasted a bit over 2 hours, put me out of my misery. Definitely blaming the loss on the Ellis / Gallego baserunning F up. Braden the tough luck loss, he pitched a helluva game. Off to the Bronx for a 3 game set in NY starting tomorrow. Hopefully the A's bats will wake up against the horrible Yankee pitching...

A's (4-5) @ Blue Jays (8-3)

A's take to the east coast for the first time this year, facing off against the team with the best record in the AL, whodathunk, the Blue Jays, eh? Usually whenever the A's come in to the SkyDome (I refuse to now call it by it's new name - damn corporate branding, that's a whole other topic), they take it to the BJ's - with the exception of the last trip in last year where they got swept in 4 games, after sweeping a 3 game series in Toronto the first time around. Hopefully if there's any sweeping, it'll be the A's holding the broom this go-round. Outman, acquired from the Phillies in the Blanton deal, takes the mound.

Outman (0-1) vs. Purcey (0-1) - First Pitch: 7:09

7:01 - Rogers SportsNet on the call tonight, HD Game #: 8/9.
7:02 - The color dude's name is, wait for it, wait for it... RANCE. Never have and probably never will see anybody with that name again in my lifetime. Has to be Canadian.
7:05 - Lineup: Nomar DHing, Cros back at 3bag, the Jack Cust Fielding Adventure showcased in RF tonight with Buck hitting the bench.
7:06 - A's @ Blue Jays always brings back memories of trips past. Used to be one of the only people hanging out by the A's dugout, running down to get the best autograph spot next to the dugout as soon as the gates opened. Got many a autograph in my time, the first ever being Tony LaRussa, and probably my favorite all time in person auto from my favorite player back in the day, Mark McGwire. Dude was massive. Not sure who I looked smaller standing next to, him or Frank Thomas.
7:09 - BJ's wearin all powder blue uni's. Not a fan of this getup. Puke. Wouldn't be as bad if they had a different color pant. There's not even any buttons on the jersey, they're pullover. And their BJ logo is directly in the middle on the stomach. Listen to me, I sound like a flamer right now.
7:10 - In other news, I received a nice gift last night: Blackhawks won their first playoff game in OT, for the first time in 7 years. Figured I'd bring up hockey seeing how we're in the home of the Hockey Hall of Fame. Interestingly enough, the only major sport's hall of fame I've ever been to. Cool place for sure. I still can't believe I've never been to Cooperstown... kinda weird.
7:15 - A's with a Sweeney BB, OCab single to start the game. Giambi up with RISP, anddd P5 in foul territory.
7:19 - Holliday 5-3 RBI, 1-0.
7:25 - Marcooooooo...... Scutaroooooooo. Leadoff HR, now with more HR's than the whole A's team (4). 1-1. Great start for Outman, Hill singles on the next pitch.
7:27 - "Alex" Rios grounds into the 6-4-3 DP. Something that really irk's me is how suddenly Rios' first name changed from "Alexis" to now just "Alex". How'd that happen? Guess he was sick of having a girls first name.
7:29 - Outman is however wearing the sick 'stirrup' style socks, instead of the usual one color. Don't see many guys sportin that style anymore. Even better is the fact that the stirrups aren't part of the sock.
7:34 - Rolen almost goes 3 run job but falls short. End of 1: 1-1-0 | 1-4-0
7:45 - 2 out walk from Ellis is all the A's manage in the 2nd.
7:54 - Sweeney HBP, steals a bag, Giambi K, Holliday F9.
8:00 - Hill follows a Scutaro BB with a bomb to LF. 1-3. Ellis follows that with a rare error.
8:09 - Outman not looking good, BB to Wells. Nuke joining me for tonights game - notes Outman's arm hair. I mentioned this to him last year or the year before, something you never really noticed before HD telecasts - most MLB players seem to shave their arm hair. Once you've noticed this, you'll never watch the game in the same way.
8:17 - "Look at those eyes." Yes, the announcer is talking about Kevin Millar. Who doubles home 2 runs after Outman had b2b K's. 1-5. Official scorekeep gives Sweeney a BS error on the play. Barrett F9. End of 3: 1-1-2 | 5-5-0
8:24 - Cust beats the shift, single to RF - extends the OB streak.
8:27 - BJ's sport their own version of the "Diamond Level" seats. Can't be close to the A's DL experience though, can't imagine anything coming close to that. Suzuki single to LF, Cust was on the move or woulda been a inning ender.
8:34 - Crosby finally comes through, bases clearing TRIPLE. Big hit right there, this game was close to being over early. 4-5. And Scutaro robs Sweeney of a hit up the middle, or we'd be tied.
8:36 - And DING, we're tied on a wild pitch, which in turn takes out Barrett who falls in a crumpled heap on top of a bat donut in the on deck circle. HAHA. 5-5. Purcey exits for Carlson and his StarTrekian ears enter.
8:55 - 5-3, K, BB, K. End of 4: 5-4-2 | 5-5-0
9:02 - 3U, F8, Cust HBP, F9.
9:05 - Outman out, Bailey in.
9:07 - Don't think these announcers could get any drier. That's how they dooze it north of the border.
9:09 - P3, K, K. Bailey has been superb to start his ML career. End of 5: 5-4-2 | 5-5-0
9:26 - 1-3, K, K. Bailey mowin 'em down. End of 6: 5-4-2 | 5-5-0
9:32 - OCab BB, Giambi F7, Holliday lines one into the gap. OCab scores, Holliday out at 3rd trying to stretch to a triple but we'llll take it. 6-5
9:36 - Bailey out, Wuertz in trying for the H.
9:43 - Wuertz 1-2-3. End of 7: 6-5-2 | 5-5-0
9:50 - Suzuki doubles over Wells' head in CF, Ellis follows that with a single to CF. Boingo insurance run. 7-5
9:54 - Sweeney FC, RBI. 8-5
10:01 - Wuertz out, Casilla in.
10:08 - Couple walks, couple K's, End of 8: 8-7-2 | 5-6-0
10:12 - Casilla out, Ziegler in for the S attempt.
10:16 - K, Scut single, 6-4-3 to end it!

W: Bailey (2-0) | L: League (1-1) | S: Ziegler (3)

A's: 8 | 7 | 2
Blue Jays: 5 | 6 | 0

Time of Game: 3:08

BIG comeback win to start the road trip. After it was 5-1, I figured it was just about over, but 7 un-answered runs later and the A's are back to .500. Play of the game in my mind was starting Cust on a 3-2 count with 1 out, allowing Suzuki to single and eventually leading to the bases clearing trip from Crosby. 13 total strikeouts from A's pitching in the game and the bullpen was clutch: 1 H, 8 K's, 5 IP. Early games the next 2 (both 1p starts).

Red Sox (2-6) @ A's (4-4)

Day baseball today, A's looking for the sweep and to go 13-3 in their last 16 games against the Red Sox in Oakland. Definitely a good chance for that as the A's have matched up pretty well against Wakefield's knuckleball in the past - it should come down to whether or not Anderson can have a quality start in his 2nd Major League game versus this Sox lineup. Hopefully they don't break out of their "slump" today, and we'll see if either team will be hungover from last night's late game.

Wakefield (0-0) vs. Anderson (0-1) - First Pitch: 3:36

3:30 - Once again broadcast on CSNCali - HD #: 7/8
3:31 - "Jackie Robinson" Day, as all MLB players are sporting the #42 jerseys today.
3:32 - 'Slingboxing' the first half of the game today - will pick up the 2nd half at home.
3:35 - Lineup: Powell with first ever start at 1B, Crosby at 3B with Nomar sore, and Buck in RF.
3:41 - Great start for Anderson: 1-3, 5-3, K.
3:46 - And a fast 1st for Wakefield as well. End of 1: 0-0-0 | 0-0-0
3:50 - 2 quick outs, then a single and Lowell goes 2-run job. The 2nd inning was Anderson's downfall last time out as well. All of his runs given up this year have now come in the 2nd (5 + 2).
3:52 - Buck makes a nice grab to save a double.
3:55 - The WBC claims another victim: DiceK to the DL after last nights start.
3:56 - Hey, even the ballboy gets to wear 42!
3:57 - At some point, maybe take a pitch or two... Two 6 pitch innings for Wakefield to start the game. End of 2: 2-2-0 | 0-0-0
4:01 - 4-3 (x3).
4:06 - Wake perfect thru 3 as Ellsbury robs Powell's deep drive to the RCF gap. End of 3: 2-2-0 | 0-0-0
4:13 - 4-3 (4 in a row), Youk single, >| (x2).
4:17 - Sweeney 3-1, and I haven't mentioned this before but OCab is not a fast runner at all, slow really, and he doesn't beat out a groundball in the hole, 6-3. Cust K's. End of 4: 2-3-0 | 0-0-0
4:21 - He can however, toss around some leather - sweet play in the hole.
4:29 - Great. Wake still perfect. I repeat, nobody has reached base yet. Jinx jinx jinxy jinx. Maybe that'll work... End of 5: 2-3-0 | 0-0-0
4:37 - Another quick inning for Anderson, has only made really one mistake to Lowell. Ortiz still without an extra base hit on the year.
4:39 - HEY IT WORKED! Lowell drops an easy groundball. E5, Suzuki on to start the 6th. Now we just need a hit, and make it a HR while you're at it. Kthx.
4:44 - Still hitless: F8, F9, >|. End of 6: 2-3-0 | 0-0-0
4:49 - Drew K's for the 3rd time, Bay double, Lowell IBB - going after Green here.
4:53 - NICE!! After a BB to Green to load the bases, Kottarras hits into the ol' 5-2-3 DP. C'mon boys, time to swing the bats!
4:55 - Heading home now --- will have to pick this up in a few...
5:00 - Green just saved the no-no with a great over the head catch on Cust's liner up the middle. End of 7: 2-5-0 | 0-0-0
5:02 - Anderson out, Blevins in.
5:06 - OK, well I jinxed Ortiz getting an extra base hit as well... double.
5:10 - Lovely, Drew just bombed one to RF. 0-5
5:16 - Blevins out, Gallagher in. Single, single, 0-6. Single, 0-8. All with 2 outs.
5:25 - This game reminds me a lot of a day game in Oakland a couple years ago, Schilling on the mound, gave up a hit with 2 outs in the 9th to end his no-hit bid.
5:27 - Ellis BB, Ellsbury saves another hit deep in the gap... and Suzuki lines one to LF. No hitter no more.
5:32 - And there goes the shutout as well. Powell singles home Ellis to CF.
5:34 - End of 8: 8-10-1 | 1-2-0
5:45 - Cust singles to extend OB streak, Holliday crushes one off the scoreboard and brings Cust home. 2-8
5:49 - After walk to Buck, Suzuki F7 to end it. Wakefield finishes off the complete game.

W: Wakefield (1-1) | L: Anderson (0-2)

Red Sox: 8 | 10 | 1
A's: 2 | 4 | 0

Time of Game: 2:13

Well, not much to say about this... Wake was on top of his game all day flirting with the no-no. Anderson pitched a great game himself, but can't compete with 0 runs scored on your behalf. Off day tomorrow - thankfully as the Blackhawks take the ice - and in Toronto on Friday. Thankfully, east coast games! Need to catch up on some sleep...

Red Sox (2-5) @ A's (3-4)

Chilly night in Oaktown, and Eveland trying to keep the Boston bats cool. Last year they blew him out of the water early, and I don't feel too confident with him on the mound tonight. I'm kind-of dreading this game, having to sit through a Dice-K start, as they seem to always last forever. Hopefully the A's knock him out early enough...

10:01 - Back on CSN Cali tonight. HD Game: 6/7
10:06 - Buck back in the lineup tonight in RF, Chavez still out nursing a sore neck / shoulder so Nomar back at 3B.
10:08 - First softball practice of the year tonight and I definitely needed it. Probably going to be sore tomorrow, but felt good to get back out there.
10:16 - Youkilis singles up the middle with 2 outs, scores Pedroia who BB'd and advanced to 2nd on Ortiz groundout. 0-1
10:17 - Drew doubles over Holliday's head, scores Youkilis from 1st. 0-2. What'd I say, Eveland does not match up well against this lineup. I've been questioning his spot in a major league rotation for the past year +. Why have 4 lefties in your rotation and not have Gallagher, who was the top trade piece they received for Harden and has electric stuff, starting? Argh.
10:21 - Awesome, Lowell singles to CF after Bay BB's. 0-3. Gallagher, HEY whadayaknow, starts to warm up in the bullpen. Tek now BB's, bases loaded. All of this with 2 outs... a hit here would pretty much put this game in the books.
10:25 - Green K's. 40 pitch 1st inning for Eveland. Honestly I was almost rooting for the inning to blow up even more so Gallagher would come in. But that's probably inevitable anyways.
10:29 - Sweeney singles up the middle to leadoff the bottom half.
10:33 - OCab BB's, Giambi almost gets all 3 runs back, but just a long out that moves Sweeney over to 3rd.
10:36 - And now Holliday almost gets all 3 back as well, off the top of the tall wall in LCF, then almost off Ellsbury's face, clears the bases. 2-3, 1 out. DiceK has yet to top 90mph on the gun.
10:39 - TIED! Cust remains hot to start the year, broken bat single to CF. 37th straight game reaching base for him (longest active streak in the majors by 6 games). 3-3. Dice looks worse than Eveland at this point... Nomar walks on 4 pitches.
10:45 - And boom goes the dynamite. Buck singles to RF, Cust scores. 4-3. What a crazy 1st inning. Probably the most I'll write during a 1st inning all year.
10:47 - Haha, Ellis singles to SS off a diving Lowell's glove, Nomar plates. 5-3. A's have batted around in the 1st. Wow.
10:48 - FINALLY after 41 minutes and 83 total pitches, End of 1: 3-4-0 | 5-5-0
10:51 - Crosby replaces Nomar at 3B, not sure what happened to him...
10:57 - No way, 1-2-3 top of 2nd. DiceK out, Masterson in.
11:03 - 3 up 3 down. 2nd inning exact opposite of the 1st. End of 2: 3-4-0 | 5-5-0
11:09 - HAHAHAHA wow. Holliday misjudges a fly in LF, barely catches the ball on a slide, gets up, fires to 1st, Youkilis who BB'd gets back, but then trips over the bag and falls off the base, Giambi tags him out. Just your average 7-3 DP. Bay then doubles to RF, Buck misses the diving catch by about 4 feet.
11:24 - Giambi's 1B defense is much better than I remembered... Has already saved maybe 7 errors so far on the year.
11:31 - Moving right along now. Buck singles to RCF, 1st hit off Masterson to start the 4th.
11:39 - Another bloopish hit for OCab, Drew totally whiffs on the ball, allowing the runners to advance. 2nd n 3rd, 2 outs.
11:42 - Giambino K's, End of 4: 3-5-1 | 5-7-1
11:51 - Potential inning ending DP almost turns into total disaster, as Giambi's defense saves Evelands horrible throw. Once again, Giambi's D so far this season: impeccable. Run still scores from 3rd. 4-5
11:53 - Lowell smashes one to 3b, Crosby can't knock it down as it rolls into LF. Drew scores from 2nd, back tied. 5-5. Eveland out, Bailey in.
12:03 - Masterson has looked real sharp. I miss DiceK :( End of 5: 5-8-1 | 5-7-1
12:16 - Masterson off, Delcarmen on. Suzuki single, Buck F8, Ellis single.
12:21 - Both stranded, End of 6: 5-8-1 | 5-9-1
12:27 - Leadoff BB to Ortiz turns into 6-4-3 DP thanks to Youk.
12:29 - OK, so I jinxed him pretty hard, it's my fault. Drew should have been rung up on strikes but the ump misses the call, then Giambi boots a ground ball...
12:31 - Bailey walks Bay - Geren removes him, Casilla in to face Lowell, still 2 outs.
12:35 - Lowell pops out to Crosby to end the threat.
12:44 - Apparently Jerry Meals forgot to put his glasses back on after the 7th inning stretch... what happened to the strike zone?
12:46 - Crosby gets first hit of the year to RF, Giambi who BB'd moves up to 2nd, 2 outs - Delcarmen out, Ramirez in.
12:50 - Suzuki lines one to the gap in RCF but Drew runs it down... End of 7: 5-8-1 | 5-10-2
12:59 - Ellis robs Pedroia in foul territory with Ellsbury on 1st to end the Sox 8th.
1:06 - Ellis can't get the bunt down and ultimately K's after leadoff BB to Buck.
1:09 - Sweeney grounds into 4-6-3 to end the 8th: 5-9-1 | 5-10-2
1:18 - Casilla out, Springer in. Drew singles to RF w/ 2 out.
1:23 - Springer gets Bay swinging, bottom 9 comin up... If the A's don't win it here, think I'll have to pause and pick this up tomorrow - gettin late late.
1:25 - Ramirez out, Okajima in. 2-3-4 up for A's
1:32 - F9, F7, >| - Apparently Meals wants to get out of here, horrible strike calls out of him lately. End of 9: 5-10-1 | 5-10-2
1:34 - OK, 1 more inning...
1:38 - Diving stop by Giambi at first saves a single. Varitek, on with a BB, advances to 2nd. 2 outs.
1:41 - Ellsbury BB, Ziegler frustrated with strike zone, Pedroia high chopper INF single. Bases loaded for Ortiz.
1:42 - Ortiz pops out to Ellis on a 2-0 pitch! Phew, A's squeek out of that one...
1:46 - Cust deep to LF warning track, no dice. 1 out. Crosby could use a walkoff HR here.
1:48 - Damn. Pedroia just robbed Crosby on a line drive headed to CF. 2 out. Suzuki BB.
1:50 - Sounds like more than half the crowd remaining are Red Sox fans... Buck K's. End of 10: 5-11-1 | 5-10-2. OK, NOW I'm off to bed.

TO BE CONTINUED...

2:06 - Picking up the game again. Bottom 11 - Okajima out, Papelbon in.
2:10 - End of 11: 5-12-1 | 5-12-2. Glad I didn't stay up til the end of this one...
2:12 - Giambi defensive montage plays, they must have read my mind. Ziegler out, Gallagher in.
2:14 - Quick inning for Gallagher ends with a diving catch in CF by Sweeney. Nice!
2:19 - Bot 12 - Papelbon out, Lopez in. Giambi leadoff BB. Who's gonna be the hero tonight? Holliday? Cust? Crosby?
2:21 - Not Holliday, Vazquez at SS makes a nice play on a chopper, gets him at 1B by half step. No pinch runner for Giambi... only 2 position players remain.
2:23 - 22 walkoff wins since 2007 = Most in majors in that timespan. Cust BB's, Crosby up.
2:26 - Crosby follows suit, BB's as well - bases are now loaded. Davis pinchruns for Giambi at 3rd. Kurt Klutch (his college nickname FYI) steps in the box.
2:28 - Not clutch this time... K's on 3 pitches. Buck up.
2:30 - BOINGO! Buck bounces one high off the plate and barely beats Pedroia's throw to 1B. Weeee'lllll take it!

W: Gallagher (1-0) | L: Lopez (0-1)

Red Sox: 5 | 12 | 1
A's: 6 | 11 | 2

Time of Game: 4:24

Could've seen the length of this one coming after the first inning. Can't imagine how long it would have lasted if the pitchers hadn't had so many 1-2-3 innings after that... may have gone on til 3am at least. Good thing they won, hate to be on the losing end of a game like that, especially with the crappy weather, and early start tomorrow. Another deflating loss for the Sox. A's goin for the sweep tomorrow (today actually). See ya then.

Red Sox (2-4) @ A's (2-4)

Looking to get back on track tonight - both teams - and it's probably going to be tough for the A's against the Sox, especially with Braden pitching. I do not like this match-up at all. Maybe Braden will impress me, but all signs point to no.

Lester (0-1) vs. Braden (0-1) - First Pitch: 10:08

10:01 - Went with the NESN broadcast tonight, no HD from the CSN camp, so it looks like I'll have to sit through Orsillo and chain smokin Remdog's call here. HD Game Count: 5/6
10:07 - Interesting lineup tonight with a lefty on the mound: Crosby gets his first start of the year at 2B, Nomar at 3B, Davis in CF, Buck sits again...
10:08 - Baldelli reminds me of a cross between Gabe Kapler & Big Bird. He's kind of a weird looking chap. K's on 3 pitches to start the game.
10:09 - Pedroia with a slow start to the season, I'm sure that'll turn around real fast in this series. Phew, long fly to CF.
10:11 - Ortiz into the deep shift to Crosby in short RF. Nice 1-2-3 start for Braden.
10:16 - Giambi with the ever increasing ratty looking Grisly Adams beard says 'I fart in the general direction of your shift', single to LF - 2 outs. He must be giddy now that he can sport something other than a stache.
10:19 - After Holliday singles, Nomar lines one to short. End of 1: 0-0-0 | 0-2-0
10:22 - Not sure what it is, but Youkilis really rubs me the wrong way. The way he holds his bat before the pitch just adds to it. Oh, nice, as soon as I type that he goes yard. What'd I say, this isn't going to end well for Braden. And Drew now singles to LF. Great. 0-1
10:28 - 4-3 DP ends Boston's 2nd.
10:31 - Yardwork! Cust goes deep to CF and now has both of Oakland's 2 HR's on the year. A's are putting some good wood to Lester so far... 1-1 -- And Suzuki now lines one to CF.
10:36 - Crosby HBP, and Davis does a great job getting both runners over.......... or not. >|
10:39 - Sweeney >|, OCab bloops one out of the reach of Ped & Drew, 2 out RBI, whatever works! 2-1
10:41 - Hoowah! Giambi doubles to LF just out of the reach of a diving Bay. 4-1
10:45 - DING - Holliday singles to RF, Giambi rumbles in from 2nd just ahead of the throw, Matt advances to 2nd. 5-1
10:48 - Nomar K's to end the 2nd, Lester strikes out the side, but A's score 4 2-out run's in-between. Now we'll see if Braden can throw strikes and hold the lead. End of 2: 1-2-0 | 5-7-0
10:54 - Just informed that Nick Swisher PITCHED!! in tonights Yankees game - and also hit a HR. HAHAHA just looked up his pitching line: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K, 0 R / ER. Awesome. He K'd Kapler, got Pena to pop out and Burrell to fly out. Still love the Swish, good dude and apparently the Yankees best pitcher to start the year.
10:55 - Nice 1-2-3 shut down inning for Braden.
11:03 - Lester follows suit. End of 3: 1-2-0 | 5-7-0
11:10 - F9, F7, Youkilis doubles off Giambi's glove, but Drew follows that with a grounder Giambi handles this time.
11:18 - Sweeney picked off first, OCab singles on next pitch, 2 outs.
11:20 - Wow, OCab now picked off - both times they left too early for 2nd and Lester makes em pay. End of 4: 1-3-0 | 5-9-0
11:27 - Braden actually looking very solid. Another 1-2-3 inning.
11:33 - Nomah goes big fly versus the former mates. 6-1
11:36 - Cust almost follows with his own, just short. End of 5: 1-3-0 | 6-10-0
11:42 - Braden inexplicably tries to field a groundball with his barehand that could have possibly been an inning ending DP, instead, they get nobody. 2 on, 1 out, Ortiz up.
11:46 - Ortiz singles to CF, Baldelli scores. 6-2
11:50 - Youkilis K's, Drew F8. Could've been much worse...
11:56 - 4-3, P6, 5-3. End of 6: 2-5-0 | 6-10-0
12:00 - Bay singles to CF, Braden removed. Wuertz in.
12:07 - Wuertz has looked really solid so far this year. 5-4 FC, F8, K.
12:18 - Lester out, Lopez in. 2 outs, Giambi HBP. Lopez out, Saito in.
12:20 - Holliday doubles to RF - Drew misses the diving catch - Giambi scores from 1st, and another 2 out RBI for the A's. 7-2
12:22 - Nomar K's against former LA teammate. End of 7: 2-5-0 | 7-11-0
12:31 - Wuertz out, Casilla in. 1-2-3.
12:38 - Cust BB, Suzuki doubles - 2nd n 3rd, 0 outs. A's looking to add some more as Crosby is looking for first hit of the year at the plate.
12:40 - Sac9 - Cust scores, Suzuki to 3rd - 1 out. 8-2
12:44 - K, K. End of 8: 2-6-0 | 8-12-0
12:47 - Casilla out, Ziegler in to get some work. Ellis in, Giambi out, Crosby moves to 1B for first time in career, and promptly gets tested. P1.
12:51 - Game ovah. Big win.

W: Braden (1-1) | L: Lester (0-2)

Red Sox: 2 | 6 | 0
A's: 8 | 12 | 0

Time of Game: 2:43

The bats awoke from a bit of a slumber just in time for a big win, ending a 3 game slide. Braden pitched much better than I anticipated he would, which was a big surprise and great lift for the team. Great work out of the bullpen as well, as they don't allow a hit in 3 innings. Hopefully the Red Sox offense continues to struggle the next 2 days, because they're bound to break out at some point... See ya tomorrow night, same time.

Mariners (4-2) @ A's (2-3)

Happy Easter! Back televised after yesterday off... I really can't stand how FOX doesn't allow any other broadcasts when they have their game of the week on. Gay. Sportin the 3rd jerseys today (black), and personally my favorite A's jersey. So, unable to watch yesterday afternoon, the bullpen went ahead and blew a 2 run lead towards the latter part of the game, leading to an eventual 5-8 loss. Surprisingly they were all over King Felix for 5 ER, which is extremely rare for them, and makes it even more painful they didn't close the deal. I did miss the MLB debut of A's backup catcher and former 1st round draft choice, Landon Powell, who had his first hit, a 2 run double, early in the game. Cahill back on the mound for pro start #2 (1st home start) and hopefully he'll be around the strike zone a bit more today. 5 BB's last time around forced the pitch count up. Hopefully he'll lead them back to the .500 mark.

Cahill (0-0) vs. Bedard (0-0) - First Pitch: 4:07

4:01 - HD Game #4 / 5, CSN Bay.
4:05 - Lineup: Fairly standard - Davis gets start in CF, Sweeney over to RF, Giambi at 1B.
4:07 - Lot of empty seats from the early looks of it.
4:09 - Ugh. Leadoff walk...
4:10 - Nice, 6-4-3. OCab goes the no-hands glove flip route to Ellis. Griffey 4-3.
4:18 - P6, P4, >|. End of 1: 0-0-0 | 0-0-0
4:23 - Branyan HBP and steals 2nd, heh? 2 straight nice blocks by Suzuki saves advancement.
4:26 - Wow, OCab w/ robbery in the hole. Good thing No-Knees Sweeney was running.
4:28 - BB, 5-3 - 2 men stranded.
4:39 - K, >|, P5. End of 2: 0-0-0 | 0-0-0
4:42 - Love me a healthy Chavez at 3bag.
4:46 - After another walk to Endy Chavez, Gutierrez hits into another DP. 4-6-3 variety this time around.
4:50 - F8, 6-3, and Davis gets the 1st hit of the game to CF. Also his 1st hit of the season. Sweeney follows with F7. End of 3: 0-0-0 | 0-1-0
4:57 - 3-1, 5-3, F7.
5:00 - Jobs I would love to have: Official Scorekeeper or Batboy for the A's - or Ray Fosse's mustache.
5:03 - F8, 4-3, INF single for Holliday. Would like to have some hits that come before having 2 outs. Might help.
5:11 - Cust BB, Chavez K. End of 4: 0-0-0 | 0-2-0
5:18 - L8, K, 6-3. 7 straight M's retired.
5:24 - Pitchers duel thru 5: 0-0-0 | 0-2-0
5:30 - >|, 4-3, K. 10 straight - 82 pitches.
5:35 - Another 1-2-3. End of 6: 0-0-0 | 0-2-0
5:39 - No-no no mo. Beltre lines a single to CF with 1 out in the 7th.
5:44 - And there goes the shutout.... Davis misplays a Sweeney line drive to CF into a double. 0-1
5:52 - Not good. Bedard is looking real sharp here today. End of 7: 1-2-0 | 0-2-0
5:54 - Cahill out. Springer In. Very good start from Cahill today but the only thing he has a chance of winning is a "L".
6:05 - Jinx list: Bedard has 1 career shutout in 127 starts.
6:06 - For all my Spanish speaking readers - www.losatleticos.com
6:08 - Ugh. End of 8: 1-3-0 | 0-2-0
6:10 - Springer out. Bailey in.
6:13 - F9, P4, 4-3. Bot 9 on the way... how about a baserunner?
6:17 - There we go. Sweeney singles to RF to lead off the 9th. First baserunner since the 4th.
6:19 - OCab successful Sac1-3.
6:20 - Bedard out. Surprising. Aardsma in (Righty) to face Giambi (Lefty). Intersting move with Bedard throwing so well. Fosse informs us all 7 M's relievers are righty's.
6:24 - Giamib K's on 97mph fastball to outside corner. Holliday last chance.
6:26 - My DVR informs me there's 11 min left... Holliday walks. 1st n 2nd, 2 outs. Cust up.
6:30 - Aards thows pretty much all fastballs. Cust has fouled off 5, 3-2.
6:31 - A huge swarm of flying bugs - Fosse says they're hornets - have surrounded the batters area causing a delay...
6:32 - Line drive to LF... caught. Game over.

W: Bedard (1-0) | L: Cahill (0-1) | S: Aardsma (2)

Mariners: 1 | 3 | 0
A's: 0 | 3 | 0

Time of game: 2:25

So that sucks. Nothing like being swept in your first home series of the year... and hey, Red Sox come in for a 3 game set starting tomorrow!!

Mariners (2-2) @ A's (2-1)

A's home opener tonight. Game 4 of the Angels series was postponed after the tragic death of Game 3 starter, Nick Adenhart, who was killed along with two others in a car accident after the game Wed. night. Truly sad and horrible, as he was only 22 - hate to see something like that happen, especially as it was the result of an idiot drunk driver.

Tonight's game brings us the much anticipated MLB debut of Brett Anderson, acquired in the Dan Haren trade. I think I may be more excited for his debut then I was for Cahill's, but hopefully both of these guys will be in the green and gold rotation for a long time, as they definitely have the talent to remain there.

Rowland-Smith (0-0) vs Anderson (0-0) - First Pitch: 10:09

10:01 - Is there anything cooler than being at a stadium when F-15's or the like do a low fly over?
10:02 - A's HD Game #: 3
10:03 - I wonder if Fosse will ever shave his mustache. What are the odds? Maybe as high as winning the lottery.
10:11 - And the first career batter for Anderson results in a Endy Chavez 1-3 putout.
10:12 - Trying to ween Grace off her sleepsack. She currently has both arms out and is banging on her musical water thing attached to her crib...
10:13 - P1, F7. Quick 1-2-3.
10:15 - A's lineup: The usual guys in as lefty on the mound. Buck sits, Giambi DH, Nomar 1B, Cust RF.
10:19 - Big ovation for Giambi's first AB. Welcome home.
10:20 - Nubber back to the mound, thrown away and we're off to the races with all the foul territory. OCab who walked goes all the way home, Giambi chugs to 3rd w/ 1 out. Holliday chance for RBI in first home AB.
10:24 - BB, P4, F8. End of 1: 0-0-1 | 1-0-0
10:29 - F9. Griffey back with the M's, another interesting sight. BB.
10:34 - C'mon, barely out of reach of a DP, single. Then back to back broken bat singles. 1-1
10:37 - Double over Holliday's head, could have been caught, slightly misplayed. Single off Ellis' glove. 1-5
10:39 - 1-6-3 DP, finally out of the inning. Unlucky stretch of pitching for Anderson.
10:44 - A's in business - Cust double off wall, Beltre error. Ellis P4. Please don't strand Cust.
10:51 - BB (Sweeney), Sac7 (OCab). 2-5. BB (Giambi). Loaded for Holliday.
10:53 - FC 4-6. Argh. End of 2: 5-5-1 | 2-1-0
10:58 - 5-3 (x2), F7
11:08 - Single, P6, FC 4-6, P3. End of 3: 5-5-1 | 2-2-0
11:14 - 7 in a row for Anderson. Too bad those broken bats didn't find a couple gloves in the 2nd...
11:20 - Rowland-Smith pulled early after Ellis & OCab singles. Jakubauskas in - wow, what a last name. 1st n 3rd w/ 1 out once again...
11:23 - Jaku promptly hits Giambi w/ an 0-2 pitch. And we're loaded again for Holliday.
11:25 - Ugh. F9 in foul territory. Why Ellis didn't tag I have no idea. Really need a big 2 out hit from Chavvy here.
11:27 - Thats a negative. 1-3. 9 LOB so far. End of 4: 5-5-1 | 2-4-0
11:34 - 6-3, Single, 5-4-3.
11:38 - April Oakland weather has claimed now 3 potential A's HR's...
11:56 - B2B Singles (Sweeney / OCab), 1st n 2nd 0 outs. More runners on base...
11:58 - FC 4-6. Holliday up once again w/ man on 3rd and less than 2 outs. Holliday has looked anxious all night at the plate. Jaku out. Corcoran In.
12:01 - 1st pitch - double down the RF line! 3-5, 2nd n 3rd 1 out. Chavvy BB. Loaded AGAIN... Nomar up.
12:04 - Sac9. Giambi trots home, Holliday to 3rd. 4-5.
12:06 - Cust BB. Lock n loaded. Suzuki up.
12:09 - FC 6-4. 13 LOB. End of 6: 5-7-2 | 4-7-0
12:11 - Anderson Out (84 Pitches). Wuertz In.
12:12 - Diamond Level seats - best seats in baseball. Just needed to throw that out there. <3
12:16 - 5-3, P4, Single, 1-3.
12:19 - Corcoran Out. Kelley In.
12:29 - OCab 2 out single, Giambi K's. 1 more LOB. End of 7: 5-8-2 | 4-8-0
12:36 - K, 6-3. Wuertz Out. Blevins in to face Griffey. BB.
12:41 - Blevins out. Bailey in. K.
12:58 - Wawaweewa! Amazing ups from Ellis keeps this a 1 run game. Bot 9 comin up...
1:04 - Way to protect with 2 strikes Jack. >|
1:06 - Fail. Suzuki F9, Ellis P4.

W: Jakubauskas (1-0) | L: Anderson (0-1) | S: Aardsma (1)

Mariners: 5 | 9 | 2
A's: 4 | 8 | 0

Time of Game: 2:57

Story of the game: Anderson's unlucky 2nd inning and A's LOB tally. Nothing sickens me more than leaving guys stranded in scoring position, especially on 3rd, with less than 2 outs. Holliday could've had 3 RBI easy. Don't believe tomorrow's game is televised... so looks like we'll see ya back on Sunday.

A's (1-1) @ Angels (1-1)

Hoping to build on the offensive outburst of last night, A's trying for their first winning streak of the year tonight. Should be do-able against Adenhart if the bats can stay hot and Eveland doesn't self-destruct like he's capable of.

Eveland (0-0) vs. Adenhart (0-0) - 10:07 First Pitch

10:01 - And the 2009 A's HD game count goes up to 2 for tonights game. Foss and Kuip on the call for CSN. Kuip really makes the rounds on this network. Sharks, Dubs, A's - the ol' trifecta.
10:05 - Tonights lineup announced. No Holliday once again, Nomar gets a rest, Rajai Davis off a great spring with his first start in CF, and thank the Lord, Cust is not playing in the field.
10:07 - I cannot STAND when umpires delay the game to wait for a specific time for first pitch. Does it really matter??? Mingya.
10:09 - Jim Fergosi is in attendence as a scout for Atl. Years of dippin' have done a body well.
10:12 - Sweeney after leadoff walk goes 1st to 3rd on a Giambi single to LF. Something out of the Angels playbook right there, welcome sight for A's fans eyes. Now the question is, how will we blow this opportunity?
10:19 - >|, BB, 6-3. Yep, blown.
10:22 - Eveland toes the rubber. Has he lost weight?
10:25 - Apparently. Nice quick inning. He was hungry, needed to get back to the dugout to grab a snack. End of 1: 0-1-0 | 0-0-0
10:35 - 2 more guys left OB. Make that 4 thru 2.
10:38 - Vlad just swung at - no joke - a ball that did not make it to the dirt in front of home plate, hit the grass. It was a fastball too...
10:41 - Who wouldn't want to follow Jeremy Bentham around the jungle? Lost, still the best show on TV.
10:43 - First hit for the Gels. And another.
10:45 - WOW. He's baaaack. Chavez saves a run with a great play at 3rd. Good thing Napoli was running. End of 2: 0-3-0 | 0-2-0
10:49 - I might have to start a new counter: Times I hear an announcer say Giambi is [insert # here] HR's away from 400. That count is now 3 if you were wondering.
10:52 - F7, F8, F7.
--- Break in the action, pausing, switching over to the 'Hawks game. Possible OT on the way... Can I just say I am rediculously PUMPED for the playoffs to start? I've suffered through more crap piled apon crap of crappy 'Hawks teams the past 7 years. Hopefully they don't get ousted in the 1st round. That would blow. Shootout time in this one! And... fail. Columbus makes the playoffs for the first time ever with the win. Back to the A's ---
11:02 - 2 on, 2 out, Vlad up. Not gonna lie, I've been impressed with Eveland so far. Prolly just jinxed the hell out of him though.
11:04 - Nope. K. End of 3: 0-3-0 | 0-4-0
11:11 - 1st n 3rd, 1 out once again. Can we push 1 across this time??
11:13 - Wtf. Davis hits into 6-4-3 DP. Argh.
11:20 - Whadayaknow, 1st n 3rd, 0 outs for Angels.
11:22 - Oh, so that's how you hit with guys in scoring position. Single, long fly ran down in CF but dropped, 2nd n 3rd 0 outs. Great.
11:24 - Sac8. Hey, an out! I take back what I said about Eveland. Gallagher loosens in BP. Chode walks. Bases loaded.
11:30 - 6-4-3 DP. End of 4: 0-5-0 | 3-8-0
11:42 - Bases loaded, 2 outs, Suzuki up.
11:44 - 6U. 2nd time bases left full. 9 LOB in the game if you're keeping track at home... like myself.
12:05 - Eveland completes 6. End of 6: 0-7-0 | 3-8-0
12:12 - First look at Russ Springer. Looks great! 4 pitch walk to Shawn.
12:20 - Leads to eventual Sac Fly for Abreu. End of 7: 0-8-0 | 4-8-0
12:28 - 9 hits, all singles. [Enter fart noise here].
12:30 - Another single. Why couldn't Suzuki have done that 2 innings ago? 1st n 3rd again. This time with 0 outs...
12:33 - Arredondo Out. Shields In.
12:35 - Whenever I heard the Diamondbacks referred to as the "DBacks". I always laugh to myself and think: DBags.
12:36 - Finally on the board. Chode makes a stupid decision and tries to cut Cust down at the plate instead of taking the out. Holliday in to pinch hit. WP, 2nd n 3rd. Hopefully they don't IBB Holliday now.
12:39 - Wish they would have... >|
12:41 - HUGE hit by Sweeney, both runs score, 1 run ballgame. Another 3 hit game for him, steals 2nd on next pitch. Like I said in my opening night blog. If he stays healthy, going to have a YEUGE breakout year.
12:44 - OCab grounds out. Springer Out. Bailey In.
12:56 - Another 1 run A's Angels game, big surprise! Since 2001: 56 games between these teams decided by 1 run. Shields Out. Fuentes In.
12:58 - Giambi leadoff walk, replaced by PH Crosby who sees his first PT of the year.
01:01 - Cust ball's deep, into Hunters glove. 2 outs. Suzuki up.
01:04 - Still alive. Suzuki nubs one off the end of the bat, confusion ensues between Napoli and Fuentes. Nomar pinch hitting. Is he still married to Mia Hamm?
01:06 - TIE GAME!!! Matthews slightly misplays the ball off the bat, results in single and clutch 2 out hit. Go #1!
01:08 - HOOOWAHHH!!!!! Infield single in the hole off Aybar's glove - 5-4!! Holy toledo. Holliday up.
01:09 - DING!!!! Line drive to CF, big insurance run right there. Attaboy Matt! Helps I have him on both my fantasy baseball teams as well. Damn, Sweeney almost went yard. Amazing turn of events, 6 runs in 2 innings - shove that up yer ass Rally Monkey. Bottom 9 coming up!
01:12 - Bailey Out. Ziegler In. Crosby now playing RF for first time ever, Nomar at 1B.
01:18 - >|, Chode INF single as Ziegler forgets to cover 1st. Kendrick hits one off Z's leg, to Chavez, barely gets him at 1st. The ol' 1-5-3 putout. 2 down.
01:20 - BALLLLGAME. Abreu 6-3.

W: Bailey (1-0) | L: Fuentes (0-1) | S: Ziegler (2)

A's: 6 | 15 | 2
Angels: 4 | 9 | 0

Time of Game: 3:13

Wow, great comeback! Figured the game was over once Suzuki nubbed that ball w/ 2 outs in the 9th. FIFTEEN hits after putting up 16 last night, enjoying this revamped lineup fo sho. 1st ML win for Bailey. Gotta get to bed, but on a definite high from this one!!!

A's (0-1) @ Angels (1-0)

Well, the travesty of opening day is behind us and now we look to the future - which of course starts with the ML debut of 21 year old Trevor Cahill. Not gonna lie, I'm definitely looking forward to this start and the start of Mr. Cahill's hopefully long career in an A's uniform (which will last about 4-5 years until Beane trades him away for prospects who most likely won't amount to diddilydick). I'm going to tab him "Large Tim Hudson".

Cahill (0-0) vs. Moseley (0-0) - 10:07 First Pitch

10:01 - Welcome back to A's baseball on Comcast Sportsnet HD (which of course is not being actually broadcast in HD on DirecTV).
10:02 - And let me also throw out another warm welcome back to Ray Fosse's mustache, livestrong.
10:05 - Lineups announced. Wait, what? No Holliday? What in the? Nomar starts again at 1B, Buck gets the nod as he should in RF. They pwnd Moseley last year, hopefully that trend continues this year.
10:07 - OK, phew, not injured, but Holliday is home sick. Maybe he caught the bug that was floating around the A's lineup last night.
10:08 - Sweeney starts off the night better than last, oppo single to LF.
10:10 - I'm just going to throw this out there, CSBayArea has the league's worst audio mix. Piss poor, constantly popping and sometimes only comes out of one channel L or R - Juan-esque.
10:13 - Giambi actually looks like he's in good shape for an old man. Now that he's back on the west coast, all that extra time spent at the Rhino must do a body good.
10:17 - Leadoff single goes for naught. Nomar hitting cleanup for some reason - if you want to call it "hitting".
10:21 - Great. Leadoff walk to Sean. Never good. And yes, I refuse to type "Chone" ever again.
10:23 - SB. Sac fly. Cust never makes it look easy out there.
10:25 - Sean scores on groundout to 2nd on drawn in infield. Ugh.
10:30 - Single. Double. Walk. Wtf.
10:33 - Reason #835 Why Mike Scioscia is a Douche: Just spent 2 minutes arguing an obvious foul tip.
10:34 - Cahill escapes with the sacks loaded. End of 1: 0-1-0 | 1-2-0
10:41 - Travis Buck wins the award hands down for current MLB player who looks like the biggest dirtbag. And thats why I love him. Another runner left on. 2 in 2.
10:47 - Leadoff double. Sac bunt. Wild pitch. Run. Gayngels baseball.
10:48 - I seriously hold my breath everytime the ball is hit in Cust's vacinity.
10:50 - End of 2. 0-2-0 | 2-3-0
10:54 - Leadoff double for fellow DMB fan Mark Ellis. Now let's see how we can find a way to strand him out there.
10:59 - And done. Flyout. Flyout. Popout. I know this team all too well.
11:10 - Cahill escapes another 2nd & 3rd jam. He's thrown way too many pitches to be around much longer. End of 3: 0-3-0 | 2-5-0
11:13 - 3rd inning out of 4 with a leadoff hit. And yay - they have more hits than last night! Will this be the inning they put a run up on the board?
11:16 - And they put it on the boaaarddddddd...... YES! Cust bangs one off the wall in right and only gets a single. Nomar would have been dead at the plate but Angels threw to the wrong cutoff man. Must have been those people in the first row out there yelling "CUT 3, CUT 3!!!"
11:19 - Consecutive hits. No way, didn't think that was possible.
11:21 - Ding. 2-2. Cust scores on RBI groundout by Buck.
11:22 - HOOWAH! 2-out RBI single to CF from Ellis, as Suzuki awkwardly slides home and scores ahead of Hunters throw - 1st lead of the year!
11:36 - Couple walks leads to another stressful inning, but Cahill out of it unscathed. I'm guessing he won't be out there for the 5th. End of 4: 3-7-0 | 2-5-0
11:42 - Giambi out of .000 land with basehit #1 on the year.
11:49 - Well, I was wrong. Cahill starts the inning. And, I was probably WAY under in my call of 2 dropped easy fly balls for Cust for the season. The count folks, is already at 1. Huge E to start the 5th. Cahill at 87 pitches.
11:55 - Morales singles to CF. 3-3. Thanks Jack!
11:59 - End of 5: 3-8-1 | 3-5-0
12:03 - Cust K Count: 2. He's on a roll ladies and yents.
12:11 - Cahill Out. Wuertz In. Decent debut for Cahill, but the 5 BB's def. hurt the pitch count.
12:17 - Wuertz strands Aybar at 3rd. End of 6: 3-9-1 | 3-6-0
12:19 - Hoping to turn my Streak for the CASH losing streak from L2 to W1 here with an A's win. Big stakes here people.
12:20 - Moseley Out. Jepsen In. Another leadoff single for Sweeney.
12:28 - Kendrick saves a run with diving stop up the middle. Bases loaded, 1 out.
12:30 - Chavez RBI groundout, A's lead 4-3!
12:31 - Heyyy Cust comes through! Bloop single. Redemption. 5-3. 13 hits on the night!
12:36 - Wuertz Out. Jairo Garcia, I mean Santiago Casilla In.
12:39 - Nice quick half inning. End of 7: 5-13-1 | 3-6-0
12:42 - I just heard Dropkick Murphy's playing in the background at the stadium and yes, this sickens me for some reason.
12:43 - Jepsen Out. Oliver In.
12:47 - Thank goodness, A's won't be back to Anaheim til August. Sweeney doubles, 3 hit night.
12:51 - Another 2-out RBI, Giambi doubles in Sweeney. 6-3. Oliver Out. Bulger In.
01:04 - Casilla goes 2 innings. End of 8: 6-15-1 | 3-6-0
01:14 - Damn, 16 hits. They must have all read last nights blog. On to the bottom of the 9th...
01:17 - Casilla Out. Ziegler In. He didn't perform well in the WBC, hopefully that doesn't carry over to this season.
01:18 - I'm sorry, but the Rally Monkey needs to be put out of his misery. What is it with Anaheim and their queer sports gimmicks? 2 things the world would be better without: The Rally Monkey and Thunder Sticks.
01:21 - Ugh. It's never easy... Abreu singles home Faggins. 1 Out. Vlad the tying run at the plate.
01:24 - Ballgame!! Vlad and Hunter strikeout swinging.

W: Wuertz (1-0) | L: Jepsen (0-1) | S: Ziegler (1)

A's: 6 | 16 | 1
Angels: 4 | 8 | 0

Time of Game: 3:20

Damn, that was too long of a 9 inning game, but I'll take all of those hits. Need to hit the hay. Solid win and great offensive output - that's what I was hoping for last night, now just need to keep it rollin. 1-1, 160 games to go...
